The bus on the vid card

You know the bus that connects the GPU and video RAM together on a Video card? Well does that bus use a two way system where the Gpu will send and intake data as well as Video RAm at the same time? Or does it use a one way sort of system where the video RAM will send data when it is done receiving data, basically taking turns?
