First off, I apologize in advance because I know that there are many "Help me build a PC" topics out there. However, I've been reading through these forums for about...8ish hours between yesterday and today, yet in doing so I became somewhat confused (reading older threads by mistake and so on). And I figured making my own topic would be easier to understand why to get so-and-so over so-and-so. Now, my confusion is not to say I havn't learned anything, I (believe) have learned a good amount of information and that's benefit enough.

Anyways, now that the "Hey, blah blah blah" stuff is done, it's the, er, "meat" of the topic I suppose.

As given in the title, I am considering (aka 95% sure) making a new computer and I'd like to hear your advice (seeing that many of you, could bludgeon me to death with your knowledge of computer technology).

I want this to be a pretty good gaming computer (I have speakers, keyboard, mouse, and monitor, so you can exclude that from the expenses).

As of right now I was considering, as far as the CPU and GPU go, an AMD 3200+ (or 3000+ if need be), and a 6600GT (or, if possible, maybe a 6800GT).

Sorry, I'm kinda long-winded, sooooo

Summary:
<$1,000
Gaming Computer

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've heard good things about Thermaltake and UFI (well, read, but that's beside the point). What kind of RAM do you (or anyone, I like a wide variety of opinions) reccomend? I've seen many different types (I know things like Corsair and Kingston are good brands, but I don't really know the technical stuff behind all the numbers, yet).

Thanks again.

I think that phosho recommended a great setup. As far as the RAM goes, I would just buy whichever of those three is cheapest or on sale at the time. All three are very good brands.

Yeah, I've seen those two before, they seem like great deals. I guess I read too much into the "value" word (guess I'm used to stores where it's a "value" to have something break in a few days, haha).

That looks really great overall. Any suggestions for heatsinks/cooling/possible GPU fan or something (no watercooling, though)? I feel like I'm asking for too much, haha. Thanks for everything so far.

All opinions are welcome.

G.Skill is the absolute best memory you can buy, I tested out some a few days ago for a friend, and I can safely say it is the best and most pleasing memory I have ever used.

So far.

And, I like all of my components running cool (overclock or not, sometimes my room gets a bit warm, etc.) and I'd be a complete novice at overclocking, but it sounds interesting (I know somewhat about it).

It also turns out I forgot I had CD/DVD drives. Anyone know a good case/have some suggestions for the above listed?

Thanks for all your help.
