BIOS refuses to recognize master....

HP Motherboard, PhoenixBIOS version 4 and right now i have a 40 gig master and 120 gig slave - when i set the 120 as master ( so i can put the 40 as the slave for storage in another comp) the bios refuses to acknowledge it - so I cant do anyting to it like load xp

set your master/slave or cable select pins on the back the drives

i checked the jumpers and cable attachments 2x over and the Hard drive is properly formatted

try cable select jumper setting on the HD`s

would that mean removing the jumpers and having the system sort out who is master or slave?

Yes, but u need to set both jumpers to cableselect.
