I have around 160$ to spend on a new processor for my shuttle, I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what I shoul get. I was thinking AMD Athlon 2800+ but im not too sure.

thnx.

You pose an interesting question. You can get a 3000+ for 160 dollars. What I'm wondering is if there's something else you can use some of that money for. If you have already bought the rest of your system or are not planning on upgrading anything else, I say go for the gusto. You don't need to speed it all on the CPU if there's more stuff you are going to be buying however. You could go down to a 2500 or 2600 for 75 buck and spend the leftover on a better video card if you haven't already bought one. If the only thing you want is the CPU and don't want to overclock a 2500, I say get a 3000.

ive got a friend who easily overclocked to 3200 from 2500, spent 114 bux (aussie) on it and the 3200 costs like 300 bux.
his board is a Gigabyte 7NNXP
upgrading your video card? go with Radeon 9600 Pro/XT for best money verses performance

Definatly stick with the Athlon XP with that budget;) 2600 and 3000 are both good, but if you can maybe get the 3000:confused:

Well currently im planning on buying a biostar shuttle, or a shuttle of some sort, putting 512 corsair xms pc2700 in it, with my new fx5600 ultra,

So that last thing would be to buy the proc.

I've been looking on NewEgg for a proc and I found a 2600+ for 84$

Specification
Model: AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Core: Thoroughbred
Operating Frequency: 2.08GHz
FSB: 333MHz
Cache: L1/64K+64K; L2/ 256KB
Voltage: 1.65V
Process: 0.13Micron
Socket: Socket A
Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, 3DNOW!, 3DNOW!+
Packaging: OEM(Processor Only)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-349&depa=0

Is that a pretty good deal?

And also what is the difference between and Barton and a nonbarton? The only XP 3000s on NewEgg are barton....

thanx

I don't know the difference, but I think Barton's are better:confused: Larger L2 cache perhaps:confused:

myst711 don't buy the OEM 2600+, the retail is only $90 and comes with a full 1 year warrantty by AMD and comes with a heatsink/fan combo. saving $6 is not a smart idea in this case.

go with a AMD 2600+ and save the rest of your money for a upgrade but if you dont want to upgrade get a faster proccesor like a 3000+
