Default Best PCI graphics card

Slightly random questions as I have no real intention of buying one as I'm better off buying a new PC but...

What do you reckon is the best PCI GFX card, both in terms on performance and in terms of value?

Default ATI

I would presume the ATI PCI Express cards that they're coming out with would be the most powerful in the market. Which makes me ask the question, would you need a motherboard that supports PCI Express cards or will any recent mobo with available PCI slots do?

I don't know anything about these PCI ex cards, or AGP really, but, if AGP cards are backwards compatable, that is, a card designed for AGP 8 working in an AGP 2 slot (though a lot slower) it might be safe to assume PCI express cards work in generic PCI slots. Unless PCI ex slots have extra connectors or something, I guess. I'm clueless :S

PCI-E is NOT compatable with regular PCI.

Oops, wrong forum... hehe.

Back on topic:
PCI runs on a standard speed same as AGP 1x. Do the math and you will realize what is the difference between that and AGP 8x.
