Best PC setup for Editing

I will be graduating from college in June, and I would like to start shooting my own movies. One of the problems that I have however is that I'm trying to do most of it at home on my computer without breaking the bank.

The current setup that I have is this:

ATI RADEON 9000
AMD Althon XP 2600= processor
ASUS a7v8x-x
40 gig drive
130 gig external hard drive
Firewire card (3 ports)
1 Gig of memory.

What more do I need for editing?

a video camera, some editing software.

I know people will tell you that Intels are better than AMD for stuff like editing, but seeing as you already have the processor I wouldnt bother upgradign as the AMD will do perfectly well.

The gig of memory you have is good as editing can be ram intensive, but I would say the most important thing now is to get some really good software!

Yeah thats fine for video editing. You might want a dvd burner off of newegg for like $60 though.

Yes. If you are gonna do a lot of video editing, shell out a few bucks and get a Mac. Trust me, it's worth it.

You're probably thinking of OS 9. It did that to me twice, until I changed to OS X, and I haven't had to do so much as hit the reset button since then.
