Earlier today i walked into my local comp usa looking for new headphones and i came out with a pre-order certificate for a PNY GeForce 6800 ultra lol.
hahaha thats some funny shit ha lol. k heres the scoop ATI runs better because you are not seeing all the things you are w/ NVIDIA catsz so they will run faster but w/ NVIDIA there is a lot more EYE candy. either way they are both nice cardz and you will not lagg on anything!

6800=More software support (with the new Far Cry patch, for example.)

Not really, it already has built in Pixel Shader 3.0 support. It's just that there aren't many games out their that uses PS3.0, and the patch for farcry just turns on the PS3.0 in the game.

the x800 is less expensive if I'm not mistaken, and I believe the XT does perform better than the 6800u

the 6800 has smartshader 3.0 (which isn't a hell of a lot better than 2.0 IMO)

the x800's prolly look better than the 6800's (the actual cards)

just my 2¢

ATI x800 series by far. Much better software support.

I dunno about that, Nvidia pretty much has their driver situation under control, I mean there's rare cases with ATI drivers that cause a user to notice the errors but it's rare.. but on the other hand.. ATI's my best friend either way =)

Correction: smartshader 2.0 is only in anything based off the R300 core. (9700, 9800, & X800)

There is no such thing as Smartshader 3.0.... it might appear in the R500 next year though.

True, the catalyst drivers are old (2000).
Forceware are quite new (December 2003).
They should also change the control panel for the catalyst drivers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Price goes like this:

6800 Ultra - $500
X800xt - $500
X800 Pro- $400
6800 GT - $400
6800 - $300

farcry800.gif

X800xt is not listed on firing squad, but we all know it performs a "Bit" better than the 6800 Ultra anyways.

So for Price/Performance, it goes like this:
X800xt > 6800U > 6800GT > 6800 > X800 Pro.

6800 non-ultra is better than the X800 Pro because it only performs a "tiny bit" slower than the X800 Pro, plus it's $100 cheaper and has Pixel Shader 3.0.

It's all about preference now. I asked a few days ago and everyone told me x900xt is the way to go, now everyone jumped ship to say 6800 Ultra >
