I was wonder what is better for gaming.

Radeon X800
or
Radeon 9800 XT

And what the difference b/w is ?

The x800 is the biggest and baddest card out there. It'll make a huge whole in your wallet though. If you really want to go the extra mile for performance wait untill the x800 platinum comes out. It will be around $500. I'm waiting for it to come out because when it does all the video card prices are going to hit the ground. Then I'll buy the 9800 Pro.

got $100 in change right now, and taking 30% of each paycheck and putting it towards a new card when the prices fall

The X800, EASILY.

Lets just say, the X800 is like the 9800 XT on steroids.

It is about 2x as good as it, and as of now, costs about the same! :P
