Default Athlon vs. Intel-which is better?

-buying first laptop.
-seeing these AMD/ATHLON Processors and Celeron?
-I know how to read reviews but want 'real' answers/real techies.
-PLEASE give me brief rank/comparison of Processors... (example) ?how does AMD/Athlon 2500+ (1.8Ghz) rank vs. P4? is Celeron worth anything.
-use= (me/***t.chief in county probation dept.) wordprocessing, spreadsheets/data, grad student, BUT wife (paramedic) would like to borrow to watch movies on overnight shift and load medical crap/programs.
-you guys are great-thanks for the help.

Yea, I agree....I think this is why nobody is responding.....its not that we don't care.....but these kind of "opinion" questions are asked A LOT!
And you are going to get a mix of opinions anyway.....
But do a search and this should satisfy your question.
