Default Athlon 64 3200 VS Athlon XP 3200

Is the Athlon 64 3200 much better in performance than the Athlon XP 3200? I'm planning on buying a motherboard/cpu combo and the athlon 64 is going at about $248 and the Athlon XP at about $129. Does the price basically speak about their performance?
Any advice?

The A64 3200 will send the XP 3200 running home crying to its mamma. There is no comparison.

BTW, the A64 3200+ is about $191 off of www.newegg.com

In gaming, yes. Take a look at this Doom 3 article: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=2149&p=7 . Although the AMD 64 3200+ isn't included, it's safe to assume even a budget-end AMD 64 is superior in todays games an Athlon XP.

But wait, there's more! Not only will the 64 offer superior performance now, wait until developers actually learn to harness the power of 64-bit. Very wise investment.

That's a lie! He just forgot to add in 'Foghorn' before that. Next windows? Pssh! Didn't you hear? McDonald's bought Microsoft, along with Toyota.

Ack, screw longhorn. It's not gunna come out until Bill Gates decides that people are desprate enough (like 2007 or above). You don't have to wait for that stuff. There's a trial version of Windows XP that's 64 bit. It's out there, but it's not 100% contable w/ the 32 bit systems.
