Characteristics of my computer:
ACER travelmate 803 LCI.
Intel 855 PM chipset, with Intel chipset software Installation utility
version 4.20 build 1006.
Intel pro/wireless 2100 with driver version 1.2.3.14 of Intel.
Microsoft windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 service pack2 compilacion 2600.
S/N: LXT250609232301ED9EF01
The ACER support of Spain has reported to me that the problem is for a
mistake of them. (BUG), But they do not give me any solution. Simply they
say that they have "had conflicts with
Certain type of cards and with others not, problems with the chipset. Not
always it is possible to achieve that all the chipsets are compatible."
I think that the people that this model of computer uses, normally do not
need to increase the performance and operability that offers the use of
pcmcia wireless cards. This computer comes equipped with a mini pci wireless
card intel 2110 3b
Surely, for this reason nobody has detected this mistake.
This response seems to me to be slightly professional.
They recognize to have a mistake, But they do not give any solution.

Efectivamente se trataria de un BUG, hemos tenido conflictos con
determinado tipo de tarjetas y con otras no , problemas con el chipset, no
siempre se pueden lograr que sean todos compatibles.

The symptoms are:
1 º. Often (not always) during the reboot of the system, the computer is
blocked until I disconnect the card. Then it returns to the normality.
2 º. With the computer working, if I extract the card and turn it to
inserting, the computer is blocked. I extract and put the card several times until the computer stops being blocked and returns to work correctly.
3º The configuration of irq is 10. But I cannot change the irq because this
disabled this possibility in the configuration of the device.
4º Most of system's devices uses the same irq. (Number 10).
5º I have observed in the regedit, which the system recognizes the device as PCI card instead of PCMCIA card. (For this reason I cannot change the
irq??)
6º I have used other cards wireless that do not have the atheros chipset of
it c54c. For example C54RC and the computer works perfectly.
7º I have used other card with atheros chipset (Proxim Orinoco 8470 WD),and I have the same problems!!!!!!
Other sympthom: I have observed that if you enable safety wep. when you
validate the key to associate to the access point. The computer never
connects. Often the computer is blocked in this situation.

The problem is probably between the cardbuscontroller of your motherboard
and the chipset of the card.
To find out more information, you need to know which cardbuscontroller is
used on the notebook.
With this information, you can take a look ad several tech-forums. You are probably not the only one with the atheros problem, so there will be people with a solution for your problem.
