I have just purchased a Asus P5AD2-E Premium Motherboard for my new system. I also bought 2ea. new Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drives (WD740GD). I have 4ea. Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drives (WD800JB) from my old system and 1ea. Western Digital 200GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive (WD2000BB). On my new system I would like the following setup.

2ea. SATA WD740GD set up in a RAID 0
Function: 148GB boot drive, OS, Applications, Games

4ea. ATA WD800JB set up in either a RAID 0+1 or RAID 10 (please advise?)
Function: 160GB w/3 partitions: 35 GB photo storage, 100GB video editing, 25 GB iTunes

1ea. ATA WD2000BB set up as a stand alone disk (Is their a slot for this drive left with above configuration?)
Function: 200 GB w/2 partitions: 30GB backup bootable OS with recovery applications, 170GB general system backup

My question is what is the best arrangement of disks and which RAID controllers will provide the best performance possible for the above functions? The MOBO storage specs are:

Intel ICH6R South Bridge supports:
- 1 x Ultra DMA 100/66/33 hard disk
- 4 x Serial ATA hard disks w/ RAID 0,1 config & Intel Matrix Storage Tech

Silicon Image 3114R RAID controller supports:
- 4 x Serial ATA hard disks w/ RAID 0, 1, 10, & 5 config

ITE 8212F IDE RAID controller supports:
- 2 x Ultra DMA 133/100/66 hard disks
- - RAID 0, 1, 0+1, & JBOD config

P.S. I also have a PCI RocketRAID 2-Channel RAID Controller from my old system I could use if necessary.

P.P.S If you are interested in the rest of the system specs here they are: Existing Sony 23” LCD widescreen monitor (SDM-P232W/B), existing Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 speakers, new xPCgear Navigator Alum windowed Case w/500W power supply and fans, new Intel P4 560J 3.6E GHz Prescott Core 800MHz FSB w/775 socket, new 2ea. Kingston 1GB PC2-4200 DDR2-533 CAS3,4,5 RAM, Asus Extreme EAX850XT PE/2DHTV Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition 256MB PCI Express video card, new Plextor PX-716A DVD/CD Burner, new Logitech diNovo Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard

P.P.P.S if you see something above that does not work together or you would do differently advise is welcome. I just placed the order yesterday and it will not be shipping until at least tomorrow so last minute changes are possible.

I have that board, and I don't believe (but don't quote me) that it has enough IDE connectors for 5 ide drives. I think it has 2, for a total of 4 drives. The best way to do this is to get IDE->SATA converters for the 4 80gb drives, and use the sata raid controller for those, and put the 200 ide drive on the primary ide controller. You can also put the 2 raptors on sata raid together.

See picture below if it makes sense :p
