I recently assembled an Athlon 64 system, but have never been able to work with it successfully. I'l quickly outline the problem.

On my win2k every time I try to run any memory intensive program, like a 3D game or jbuilder, the cpu just turns off. I have to then switch off the power supply on the smps, remove the power cord, wait for a few seconds, and then plug it in to switch on the system. The cpu turns off even if its in dos mode or in the CMOS setup menu. However, the funny part is that, if i boot into win2k, leave the system on for quite a while without doing anything (mabbe an hour or so) and then try to run halo or something, it works without any problem.

my system specs are as follows

athlon 64 2800
msi K8N Neo mainboard
crucial 256Mb ddr
radeon 9200 128Mb
80Gb samsung Hdd
x-pro 400W psu
15inch crt, plugged to power socket seprately

I would be grateful for any help. Thanks in advance.

It looks like your cpu is overheating, and the automatic shut down is what causes the pc to turn off.
