Sure buddy, just because you sit on your @$$ writing messages all day doesnt mean you know anything about computers, plus way to cover up calling me ralph

Nobody was making fun of you, actually. You were the one who started the namecalling, and I suggest this useless mudslinging be ceased.

I agree, sorry if i offended you koldapu im just a little iritated with my computer and having to pay so much. lets just put the past behind us.:D

no offense taken, and i apologize too . . .

anyways, computers are an expensive hobby (sometimes, my parents wish i had taken up "pog collecting" or something)

and now-a-days, a 7-year old computer just isnt going to cut it for the latest software and stuff . . .

but you CAN build a good computer for under $600 . . .

and basically, the internet is just a worldwide network of computers . . .

ok, your telephone wire has 4 wires in it. two is for grounding, one is for data and the fourth is for voice. what happens is their is a modulator demodulator called your modem. what this does is encode the data being sent out of your computer and turn it into voice.

next after your modem translates the data into voice, the telephone wire is used to transmit the voice signals. then when the voice signal reaches another computer the modem decodes the data, changing the voice signal into data which the computer can understand. and the process is repeated for every computer that has to send and receive the information.

think of it as a phone call. when you talk, your voice is sent to a speaker which translates the voice signal into audible content which the person on the other line can understand.

when you check out your porn sites (nothing is wrong with that, its nature) or sites like this, your computer sends data to a server requesting information, then the server sends the data back to your computer utilizing the method i mentioned above.

do you understand how you access the internet over the wires??
any other questions, just ask em.

ok, so when im calling servers they have some crazy decoding device thats like listening in on me all the time? why do we let the phone companies do that? its like saying its cool for me to hangout in the girls locker room at some high school!

But now that i know what the internet is and how it works, i dont really need to know anything else about computers, its all pretty strait forward im sure

no, the servers aren't listening to you all the time. they get packets(pieces of data) at a time, then they decode it, use the data and send it back to you. you're not in constant contact with the server your trying to get to.

then at what times are they listening in on me?? i have certain times of the day i like to do things and i would prefere if the whole internet wasnt listening
