Default Anything as good as AVG?

Hi, I just built a new comp with windows x64 pro installed, and it seems that nothing but AVG Version 7.1 Pro will work, and that prog is about $40. I will buy it eventually (or the newest version at the time), but for right now, I need an anti-virus prog that is as good as or better than AVG, and that's free i.e no trail bs. Any ideas? Thanks !!

I use Avast! The home edition is free. In terms of detection success, I think Avast! edges AVG slightly.

Okay, I am using avast! right now, but it says it's a DEMO. U said the Home Edition is free, but it says here I have 59 days left.

I use Antivir Personal Edition v7 Beta
it's low on resources, fast and effective, and it's also free.
(and no I don't work for them)

I have had absolutely NO problems with AVG-free version. I turned auto updates and have had no viruses in the 3 years since installation.
The free wersion is available at Grisoft.com.

Well, I have x64, and AVG does not work with x64. so I think I might just switch over to SystemSuite. I will get rid of spybot, adaware, and avast! What's everyone's take on SystemSuite?

dont buy softwares, its simple, [SNIPPED]

Unless it's freeware, you should always pay for it - after any evaluation periods expire.
