Default Any way to force widescreen bars?

Hey,

I have a 22" widescreen monitor(link: here), running on a X1950XTX.

I'm trying to get widescreen bars to display while playing a game that doesn't support widescreen. I previously was able to use the Catalyst control center to use centered timings on "non-native panel resolutions" whatever that means, and it worked perfectly on 1400 x 1050. Which helped me out greatly on 3 different games which allowed me to set that resolution. However this older game doesn't have said resolution (but it allows set it at 1600 x 1200, strangly enough). And I can't run the game at that resolution as the bottom part of the display goes off screen.

So i'm wondering if there's anyway I can put some widescreen bars on the sides of the screen to prevent the image from stretching across and looking absolutely horrible.

EDIT: The game in-question is Dawn of War, incase anyone has any experiance.

Change the settings on the monitor, usually has settings on the monitor itself.

There are no settings on the monitor itself for that, is there a way I can fiddle with the settings on a software level?
