Default another video card question

I know this has been asked a million times before, but exactly how much of a performance difference would i see between a 6600gt and a 6800gt. the 6600 has higher clock speeds, but fewer pipelines. As far as i know these are the only differences. I would like a card to play games at the highest resolutions with everything on max if possible and also a card that will be able to play tomorrows games decently as well. I know things change quickly so that may not be possible, but i would appreciate as much info as anyone here can offer.

If you want to play Doom III at max res your going to need to make 2x6800gt work under SLI.

But appart from that I would go for the 6800gt card.
