my friend is trying to tell me that his AMD Athlon 2800+ processor is the equivalent of a Intel 2.8 GHz processor. I think he is wrong so let me know who really is.

It's clocked slower, so naturally it's a bit behind, but he beat you in the price category, cause he only played around $130 for his, your computer is still (quite) a bit faster, if you want to prove it to him, run 3dmark with each other's hardware.

The actual clock speed in GHZ is not the same but performance wise.... many would argue that ithey perform the same.

in actual numbers, the Intel is POSTED as a faster chip..
but the AMD chip will perform just the same as a 2.8 Intel (arguably, of coarse)

the amd will of been alot cheaper and will perform about the same the different chips are better at sum things and worse at others ie p4s are betta for media editting where the amds are better for gaming. its down to personal preference, tbh i wouldnt touch a p4 with a barge pole cos of the price and the amds bein better for gaming.
