Default AMD Athlon 64 X2

I saw this on the news, and they also sell it on tigerdirect.. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0

1. Why isn't this chip that popular when it is cheaper than the FX55?
2. And it sais it operates at 2.4GHZ, is that 2.4GHZ per core or is it 1.2GHZ per core??
3. Is it worth getting this over the FX55?
4. If there are 2 cores, then does that mean it can do Multitasking like HT in intels?

thanx!!

Brand new tech

2.4 per cores.

Not for gaming.

Yes.

Infact, this chip isn't even availible yet, you can only preorder it which is why it's less popular than the FX-55. As mentioned it has a 2.4GHz 512KB cache in each core. It's basically the real enviroment which Intel Hyperthreading simulates.

As mentioned, games are not multithreaded and will still thrive more on powerful single threaded processors such as the FX-55. Encoding or image editing however, the X2 excels in.

I laugh at how tigerdirect got the bus speed wrong.

Well, you obviously can play games, it's just not really meant for that, games aren't multi threaded.

according to benchmarks, very suitable for gaming:

"The thing to keep in mind here is that AMD's dual core solutions are closer to their fastest single core offerings in clock speed, so they end up performing more like their Athlon 64 counterparts in games - which has always been quite strong."

they still give good game performance, just not as good as they could if the games were optimised for dual CPU's. the vast majority of games are designed for only a single CPU

Their not good for gaming, because they'll perform just as well, or maybe slightly better, then a single 2.4 GHz CPU, which is much cheaper.

Not very cost effective.
