This post is based on some reviews I read in CPU magazines' 'PC MOBOS' Special Refence Series. They tested lots of Intel and AMD setups, but I was most surprised by this.

To compare the performance of socket 754 and 939 I looked at the Socket 754 Athlon 64 3400+ and gigabyte mobo and then pitted it against a socket 939 3500+ and another gigabyte mobo.

These were the scores surprisingly!

754/ Athlon 3400+

3dmark03 = 5822

Pcmark04
cpu = 4399
memory = 3559
graphics = 4647

Halo 1024x768 = 47.77fps
Doom 3 1024x768 = 20.2fps

939/ Athlon 3500+

3dmark03 = 5239

Pcmark04
cpu = 4099
memory = 5191
graphics = 4556

Halo 1024x768 = 44.94fps
Doom 3 1024x768 = 17.8fps

The 754 setups win in just about everything except memory! Other mobos weren't much different either!

i dunno about the CPU mark, but the rest of the stuff...3D mark 05 tests graphics...so if the graphics card was better....i could understand that...

If the SKT 939 system wasnt running dual channel they dont have much of an advantage.

A SKT 754 3400+ is 2.4ghz while an SKT 939 3500+ is 2.2ghz remeber

lol emerald dude, why would they benchmark using a different graphics card, thats the whole point of benchmarks to COMPARE one part, so they use all the same.

You can see that the 939 was in dual channel mode due to the much higher memory score.

They both used a Gainward Geforce 5900XT.
