Are the new AM2 Sockets coming out compatable with 64-Bit CPU's, or will they have their own CPU's to go with the mobo's. I'm still a bit confused on the sockets

I've just heard about them now on these forums...But then I am way out of the loop. I'd like to know if they're compatable as well, and also what will the 'real' performance difference be like compared to current soeckets? And how much more $$ for that performance?

They will be 64-bit CPU's, but the current generation (s939) wont be compatable with it, neither will the s940 opterons, even though they both have 940 pins. You will have to buy an entirely new processor to use with the AM2 boards, just like the differences between s754 and s939 chips/mobos.

How about doing a search for them? I know I've written atleast 3 long posts on them in the last 2 days...
