Yep. A PCI card won't fit in a PCI-E slot. There are 2 types of PCI-E slots. PCI-E x16 (for gfx card) and PCI-E x1 (for other cards)

There's also something called PCI-X. PCI-X is backwards compatible with ordinary PCI cards, PCI-X is way faster than PCI though. You can use any PCI card in a PCI-X slot.

PCI-Express is the next generation of interface slots.

You see, there was PCI, then AGP, now PCI-Express.

PCI-Express (or PCI-E) is not market-wide yet, but it'll get there soon. PCI-E doubles the available bandwidth between the graphics card and the rest of the system, over AGP.

If your motherboard says you have a PCI-Epress slot, and you can afford a PCI-Express card, you're all set. Otherwise, you're SOL for PCI-E technology.
