Question ADSL to Cable (Router Problem)

Hi, i have adsl and want to upgrade to cable. But there's one problem, i have a home network and an ADSL Router. Is there some way i can configure my router(DSL 504) to use it for my cable??

PS. i spent like $200+ for the router and dont want to leave it lying round unused

What brand or model is it?

All an ADSL router does is basically log you in to your PPPOE service right? (too many P's in there?) is it multi port? if so, go from your cable modem to your router and network your computers off of that.

If it's only one computer, then no.

i have a D-Link DSL-504 router, it has 4 ports. Can i use it by connecting a network cable to my cable modem then to my router ??
if i do use this "adsl" router to connect with the new cable connection, will it slow the cable connection to less than its 500kb/s or watever it is?
