It's probably the chokes.
They're essentially a coil used to resist sudden changes in the current flow.
If it's a high-powered video card with lower quality chokes, it's more likely to be audible.

I was running it at the speeds in my sig but i dont game enough anymore (too much study) so its back at default speeds. im not going to worry unless anything happens but i doubt it will

those are nice every day speeds. mine runs at 825/2000/1200 every day. i overclock if i'm doing a bench. what's the highest speeds you've gotten up to? the memory doesn't like to go over like 1250 before artifacting

I havnt really tried to go much higher, from memory i got the core to around 850 shaders to 2075 and the memory to around 1250. I didnt try for long because i didnt have much time and i still havnt got around to going higher. Im currently thinking of building a new rig but i need all the money i can get for university next year. If i have some free time after exams i might try to go higher.

i heard this high pitched noise for the first time last night while loading into a game. i have a 9800gt dual slot and the crucial ballistix. it went away after a few minutes.
