Really? I thought the six cores were coming out mid 2010. I didnt even know they were planning 8-12 cores in the near future.

Six cores are still speculation as far as I've heard. But 8 cores have been confirmed by Intel. Anand and The Inquirer claim Intel says they want them out by 2010. I would add a 2-4 months to that as usually they're late.

There is no more speculation, intel confirmed through its road map that 6 core westmere will be appearing. So no 8-12 cores until Sandy Bridge, and actually no 4 core 32 nm products that aren't xeons until Sandy Bridge as well.

Yeah there is no rush for more cores. So few applications and games actually make use of multiple threads that it doesn't really improve performance.

that is why i get worse performance on my Phenom II 940 then i did with my Athlon 64 x2 5000+ BE?

no, i have no idea why your getting worse performance,

my 6400be and 7750be can not touch my 940 in performance.
