I read some place that the old 5.25 inch drives were 5.25 inch in size cause they were reflecting one of the dimensions of the hard disk(5.25), is that true.

i read some place that the old hard disks were 8 inch x 5.25 inch in dimension.

they were that large because the technology could not get the disk any smaller, and old hardrives used to be called winchesters because of there large size and low storage compacity.

probably, but it is just a hardrive with several disks one on top of the other and a drive head for each side of each disk.
