yep he's right. the games are not outputting surround sound. so you should use the dolbly pro logic II music or game mode on the receiver

Far cry says dolby 5.1 in the menu for audio setting, is that not supposed to be true surround sound?

Well in some games (ie. Battlefield 1942) You don't get 5.1, but the rear speakers and front speakers ARE on separate channels, so you get somewhat surround sound. I've got a 5.1 system too, and I've only played a few games that have full support, but most of them do support atleast four channels (front and rear)
