Default 45nm core?

Hey everyone! So apparently Intel is coming out with their 45nm core's in 2008. I know that these give off less heat, but what is the 45nm in measurement of? Thanks .

lol. I knew that it stood for nanometres, but what I meant is what object/thing inside the CPU is 45nm? Is it something to do with the pipeline?

Basically, it's the size of the transistors on silicon.

So, the smaller the value is, the greater numbers of transistors can fit on the same size silicon.
