I currently have a 256mb stick of PC2700 ram and I was going to get another 512mb of RAM for the time being until I can get some more money. I wanted to get a 512 stick of PC3200 ram (yes my motherboard does support the ddr400 I already made sure of that) Can I put the 512mb stick of pc3200 with the 256mb of PC2700? I would expect if it did work that, yes indeed that I would have 768mb of ram but they would only work as fast as the slowest chip in this case the 256, so basically I'd be running 768 of PC2700 ram, or would the computer just not even boot up? In a couple weeks I'm gonna get another pc3200 and put the 2700 in a different computer so this setting is rather temporary. Any assistance would be great. Thanks =)

aright, thats what I thought would happen. I'm happier with the 3200 running at 2700 since its temporary than if they didn't work together at all. Thankyou for your help =)

Not recommended to mix speed, what is recommended is running ram with same speed and brand. Not all rams are compatible.

i would definitly go for 3200 it will be better in the future if you ever want to get a fast processor and get 2 sticks of 512 and run them in dual channel and it would be NICE

You can also do some tests with only your 512 of PC 3200 and with all your RAM (like 3Dmark) The score with 512 might be higher than 768 since your memory would then be at 400
