I thought pentiums were better for video editing?

Right now I'm leaning towards Ram, the encoder would be nice but it is just too much at the current time. I'm curious as to how much a video card would help, the editing process.

The only advatages of a better videocard can be better image quality or multiple display support. They don't speed up anything when editing pictures.

As far as I know Matrox makes the best cards for 2D picture editing (good colors etc).

Intel currently has the best CPU's for picture/video editing with 32bit applications.

Soon the AMD Athlon64 CPU's will take over as soon as Win64 and 64bit programs will be released.

Thanks for all of your responses, I'm probably going to order wendsday. I'm still leaning towards Ram, and either a new PSU or Something in cooling. I just DL'd speedfan and am going to install it on his computer to moniter what it needs.

But I am still openly seeking any and all suggestions.

the best one is the first

some people have had problem with the compusa's one

I see People spend up to 3000.00 for a video editing beast. these cards use to cost up to 2 grand, but you can now get them for 500-600.00
and they also would work on a 333 mghz machine. they also won't use up all of your computer resource like software encoders, which also improve quality

Where can I get that first card? I didn't see it at new egg. I'll tell him that you guys are strongly recommending a encoder, and see if he is willing spend the money.

Thanks
