In this case a KVM would be most practical, for instance alot of mobo's refuse to pass the BIOS splash screen without a keyboard attached. Also when your swapping from one to another it makes more sense to be able to tap CTRL CTRL 1 or 2 to use a system.
You can get soft KVM's but they are useless till you get the OS to boot and are only useful when each system has its own display and you don't mind running some questionable software (from a security standpoint) useful but not totally practical.

Thats usually the max redsolution you can go too. Not the res you would have to use.

Btw, i posted that one as the pic showed all the connections. So you'd get a good idea of what it is.
