Default 1394 enclosure

I have a 120gb IDE that I want to hook up to my laptop. My laptop has 1394 firewire, and Im looking at several harddrive enclosures to use with my 120gb. I was wondering if hardrive enclosures are recognized at the boot sequence as an IDE drive, and If it is possible to install an operating system on it and have it boot up as well...

To my knowledge I dont think you can boot up off a firewire. Your firewire interface/HD isn't recognized until windows boots up. But I may be wrong.
