I bought a MSI mini-pci Wifi card for my thinkpad T30. When I install it the computer says invalid card installed. I heard you can put tape on some of the pins, does anybody know how?
i have never heard of "mini-pci" i assume you are referring to PCMCIA? you should not have to tape any pins that i am aware of. when does it say the card is invalid? in windows or during the POST? if it is inside windows it is probably driver related
The mini-pci slot is just that a small pci slot on the bottom of most laptops, it allows cards like Wifi, ethernet, modem, gps. This is under a cover kinda like the ram cover and about the same size. Makes for less stuff you have to worry about plugging in or hanging out of the computer. The message is given at the post screen.
well there you go, i learned something i had neither seen nor heard of mini-pci before today. sorry for trying to correct you
perhaps a BIOS flash could help but i am doubtful. if i were you i would contact the two companies involved, perhaps either the slot or the card are faulty. they may also be able to give you some insight as to compatability issues.
