When we never hear back we assume the worst.
Windows XP - Don't know where to start.

Go to Device Manager then click on the IDE Controllers. Right click on the actual controller and select Properties. If the option is given you want to "Roll Back Driver".
If the Roll Back Driver option is not available you want to go to "Update Driver". Then select "Browse my computer for driver software". Then select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". This should bring up a list of compatible drivers for your IDE Controller. I would try the Standard or Microsoft driver if available.
