Hey all, just finished installing windows on my new SSD. I forgot to set my bios to AHCI before installing, and continued to install drivers and a couple programs and such. I then remember to change the BIOS and when I did so, I saved and restarted, only to have windows not start up. A couple times it even tried to repair but failed. Did I miss something, or is this because I didn't set the BIOS to AHCI before installing windows?

this is what I've done so far:

Disable indexing
Disable defragmentation
Enabled Write Caching (to my data drive, second HDD)
Disable the Page File
Disable System Restore

I enabled Trim

I also just Disable Superfetch / Disable Prefetch, but have not tried restarting again since I did this.

Any suggestions?

You can't just change to AHCI mode and expect Windows to work the same. You have to make some registry edits, If I remember right. Very risky.

Change back to IDE, or make a fresh install in AHCI mode.

what are the risks?

it seems to be running good right now, but if you really think that i should re-install with my BIOS set to AHCI before installing, then I will. The only things that I have changed within windows are what were listed in Slaymate's SSD Tweak guide.
