Unhappy windows media edition defect?

Hey guys, I have windows media edition 2005 on my computer but it won't play DVD's. Neither will my Windows media player. I just saw a posting similar to this but I do not want to purchase some DVD playing software.. Thats What I Bought Media Edition FOR! Please help me with any ideas. Thanks

is the disc the same region code as the drive, and if not, has the drive run out of changes?

you can find out on the back of the disc case, and by right-clicking on the drive in my computer, and going to the region tab.
