Wii Disc reading error

Christmas '08, my family got a basic Wii. (~4 years ago) Recently (well, maybe a year ago) it stopped playing discs. As in:

- Insert disc into wii
- Go to disc channel
- It eventually says "Unable to read disc."

but today I did a wii update and now:

- Insert disc into wii
- Go to disc channel
- It eventually goes to a black screen which says "An error has occurred. Please eject the disc and turn off your system, and read the wii manual for troubleshooting." (not the exact message)

Here are the games me & my family owns for our Wii:

- Wii Sports
- Wii Play
- Wii Music
- Wii Fit
- Cooking Mama: Cook Off
- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- Up
- Just Dance Kids
- Avatar: The Burning Earth
- Super Mario Galaxy

I was thinking maybe homebrew and just download all my discs onto homebrew, but homebrew seems too confusing.

Any ideas?
