i just recently put together a older computer for some people. and right now im puting a hard drive that is fully formated, with a fresh install of windows. i try to boot up the computer. it goes threw everything fine, does ram checks. finds the hd as primary master, cd as 2ndary. and than it gets to the part where it should boot windows. and it asks the questions "Start safe mode" "w/ networking" "w/ command promt" "last known good config" and so on. and if i do just start windows normaly, it starts to load. i see the white bar on the bottom of the screen, and it just freezes when it gets to the end. i restart. start in safe mode, it loads up all the windows files for safe mode, and when it loads the last file somthing.mup it just sits there.

i tried to switch ram in and out of the computer, and it doenst do anything. i wanst sure.

any ideas?

re-formating isnt an option.

its your best and only option , windows always locks up when moving the hd to another pc (thats the case here from what i understand) , if you dont wanna do it from data loss reasons then just use ubcd4win/reatogo (will create xp live cd) and burn the data to cd/dvd media/copy to external or network drive/usb flash memory
http://www.ubcd4win.com
http://www.reatogo.de
and if the hd have more then one partition and the important data isnt on the main partition (C that is) then just use ubcd4win/reatogo to format the C partition or use a third party partition manager , windows xp setup is very limited it cant format existing partitions however that can be done in various ways^
