Well I looked at your desktop specs from your first post.
You would have some good choices but you would need to figure out a better way to cool that thing off and keep it power efficient

Either a
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400

Q6600 might do it.

A good pci-e card will do you real good for medium based gaming, I would stick with small low profile cards such Nvidia GT200 -GT500 also ATI hd 4350-5000 series would help as well.

Matter of fact, I want to see you trick the thing out over this year.
As long as the desktop atx case has room inside to do what you need for, you could do some real evil things with it if you want to.
