Where did my hard drives go.

JUST reformatted XP and put in my new 80 GB WD hard drives.


I tried putting one in and It dosent show up under my computer, yet it shows up under device manager.


I tried no jumper and jumpers but no avail.

XP is on a 200 GB and My 80 GB is empty but I wish to use it.

have you checked in disk management to make sure that there is an active partion that is formatted? is it a brand new drive?

Brand new drive right out of the box

go to computer management, click storage, click diskmanagement, click ur drive(the space where its white, kinda a representation of ur disk), right click it, click format, follow instructions.

Uhh I would but it's not there....

Just my C drive (200GB) and my CD-RW drive

ok..thats confusing, can u get a screen shot of disk management?

Ok so I found it and it is there.


Now I would go in to Command prompt and just do format D: but it's not labled anything?



ALso when I right click it there is no format option available.

Ok I figured it out, all I had to do was initilize it and then format it.

do u got the disk that came with the drive? if u do, pop it in, boot to the disk(havent used mine in a long time) select ur drive, and format it(i think)

also, what comes up on the menu when u right click the unallocated space on it?
