What caused it?

I turned my comp on earlier and all that was on my screen was a 'grey static' kind of image. What the heck could have caused that? I restarted and it went away, but still bothers me. lol

Check your cable connections (disconnect and reconnect), and reseat your graphics card. That'll take care of the obvious causes.

Of course, Windows may just be in a bad mood, too...

Ok, I'm new to this stuff kinda. I've never opened up my case before. How should I ensure that I don't fry anything with static?

leave the power cable plugged into the psu but turned off at the wall. keep your arm against an unpainted part of the chassis
