Weird sound and diskette drive 0 error?

When I turn on my comp it makes a weird vibrating humming sound. Then after the Dell page goes away it says something about the version then under it it says:
diskette drive 0 seek failure

A friend told me it might be related to the floppy drive?
Any help?

Sounds like your drive has failed. Honestly, I don't know of many people that use them anymore.

Open the case and uncable it then, go into your BIOS and disable it.

If you've got USB ports, assuming you're running at least Win98 Sp2, you can pick up a usb floppy fairly cheap.....

Do you know in any greater detail of how I should uncable and disable it? I'm not really familiar with this.
I'm running XP.
