Default Weird Flash Drive Malfunction

I just finished up building a new PC and have installed Ubuntu Linux into it.

I try putting in one of my flash drives to see if it works-it doesn't. That flash drive was inconsistent in the past so I plug in a second flash drive. It worked so than I ejected it and plugged it into my other computer to try some transferring. I put a mp3 and a word document in it and ejected it again to plug it in my new computer. Nothing happened. The red light that signified it has been detected did not light up. I unplug it and try to plug it back into my other computer. Nothing. I try different USB ports, nothing. It is like it went dead but I do not understand why. Now I am worried to plug anything into the new computer.

What went wrong? Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance!

bump!! please can anyone help. Both of the flash drives died. It isn't that the flash drives are that valuable but I am wondering what I did wrong building the computer that could have caused this?

Any ideas are welcome.
