Default Weird DVD Drive Issue

I have an HP Pavillion desktop, and Im having some weird problems with the CD/DVD writer that came with my computer.

The drive can read dvds just fine, except it isn't capable of burning things, I always get strange errors. I never had a problem with it untill just recently, but I cant pinpoint a specific thing that may have caused problems.

Also, when I try to mount DVD images onto it, I get other really strange problems. I tried to download new drivers, but a variety of things happened, one of which was that it said I didn't have an optical drive.

I dont really know what im doing in this field of computer tech, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you get a delayed write failure?
if so, kill all progs except the burning prog
also is it a cd rw/dvd reader combo or a dvd writer, and what are you trying to burn?

Listen to my music! and random/funny videos XD

Have you installed any gams with Starfource. Im thinking that that copy protection program is frying alot of CD/DVD burners.I had too new DVD burners go out in one week.
