WD USB External Drive Not Recognized

Guys, this still baffles me and I cant figure out how to fix...also, my USB card reader works on the desktop but not the laptop like this external drive.

I've updated all the drivers.

Just cant understand why it works on the desktop but the exact same type of WD drive (a different one) works on the laptop.

Do non powered or self powered USB devices work? It could be the laptops +5v USB power source is bad. You may be stuck using an externally powered USB hub if that's the case.

No...that is what is weird. I have the EXACT same WD external USB drive and it works, while another one (same model, everything) doesnt. BUT that one that doesnt work on the laptop works on all other computers.

So devices like larger 3.5" external hard drives don't work either?
