Video and System Sound

It seems every time I play a video from like putfile.com or other in Firefox, it plays the sound very loud with static and then my system sound gets knocked out. I can't hear anything from any applications until I restart my computer.

And it might not be just in firefox...it happens often but I can't pinpoint the cause yet.

Any ideas? Might be a hardware OR software issue I have no idea...
