Video game lag even tho I meet the requirements.

My issue is that any games I find that I meet or surpass the requirements for I've still got trouble running. Computer runs fine for all other daily tasks.

On a fresh install of windows 7 -
I've got a p5n-e SLI motherboard with a 2.8 dual core Pentium D a 8600 GT (512MB) and 3 GB of mismatched memory (I know its a bad idea but its all i had on hand) a 80GB IDE HDD, I've thought many times this is my bottleneck but haven't had money to get a TB to replace it.

Any thoughts appreciated Im out of ideas myself.

Which game? What are the settings in the game? Do you have AA/AF enabled?
There are a lot of factors to why this could be happening to you. Your video card is a huge bottleneck right now, and your processor isn't much better. Your memory is clearly another weak component.

You may meet the MINIMUM requirements for a game, but what that means is you have to turn everything (including resolution) down to the lowest possible setting to see real performance in that game.

The thing is, most requirments, are the BARE MINIMUM that is needed to run the game, it usually takes a much more powerfull system to run games.

Can you list the games you are trying to run?
