Default video card not recognized

was asked to install a bfg 8600gts into a hp pavilion a6228x. I switched the bios to look for pci-e pop the card in, and no video. there is no option to disable the onboard video in the bios, only to tell it where to look frist. any ideas?

Did you power the card?

The card needs a pci-e power connection, it plugs into the 6 pin on the back.
