Video card not recognized

I just bought an ATI 1600pro for my new Intel motherboard DG965. Everytime I insert the card and boot up, my card is not even recognized. I tried installing the driver, but that did not help recognize the card. I am at a total loss at what to do. Some help would be greatly appreciated as I bought a new lcd monitor and would love to see my computer digitally.

Did you disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS?

When i clicked on it to read from the video card, it would go to the xp load up screen, then go blank. What would be the reason why the card isn't recognized at all? I put a different video card in my older abit motherboard without a problem, I am confused.
