Video Card Fried?

Ok, so at a LAN we plugged my moniter (LG 17" flat panel) into one of my friends computers to watch a movie he had on his system. He has a CRT 17" moniter, and we just unplugged and plugged in mine. From that, we had some troubles getting it set up. The computer kept restarting, but eventually we were able to watch some of the movie. It then switched itself off, and we thought nothing of it, and just went to bed.

In the morning, he was having more issues when we plugged his moniter back in. Windows would load then the screen would go black. We went into safe mode, reinstalled his graphic drivers, and everything was sweet for awhile untill recently it has died.

Is it really possible to fry a video card like this? I wouldnt of thought so, with plug'n'play moniters and all. Thanks for any help.

**Edit: Video card of my friends computer is a Radeon 9600 pro

.....ati.... I've never heard of something like that. Chances are probably greater that the card was damaged in the process of installing the cable then from the actual switching of signals.
